My generator has a 20 amp 220 twistlock, The receptical box has 4 wires that end at a 30 amp breaker (with safety shutout for main breaker) in the main breaker box. My question is, how to wire the receptical ?thanks

There is no actual plug receptacle yet, that's my question.I have 3 wires from the generator, but 4 wires in the box, do I use a 20 amp twistlock 220 plug and outlet and connect the white and ground to ground or cap the white off and connect the ground to the outlet? Thanks..

I'm sorry, but I do not understand your terminology.
You have a generator with receptacles. Then what is a "plug receptacle", and what box are you referring to?
Are you trying to connect to a generator inlet box that is connected to the panel? How are you connecting this to the house?
Please try and be specific.

If your generator only has a 20A 3-wire 240v receptacle then that cannot feed the house. You need a 4-wire 120/240v receptacle on the generator.

Forgive me for messing this up, I checked the generator again.. I have a 120/240 20 amp 4 prong receptical.. so I need to get a 20 amp 4 prong plug for the generator ,I have 10/3 wire for the cord, what do I need to connect to the house , a 4 prong female on the cord and , a male in the box? From the box to the panel was wired and inspected and has a safety at the panel so no one gets hurt.. there's a big storm brewing right now and we are going to get hit Monday here in nj... thanks again

OK, that sounds better. As long as you have an interlock on your panel then you seem to have it right.

Yes, the inlet on the house will have a male plug built-in so you can plug in the female end of the cord coming fro the genset.

Correct except you need a 4 conductor cord instead of the 10-3 you have.

Unless you are calling out a cord with cable terminology. 10-3wg cable (like MC,romex etc.) has the same number of conductors in it as 10-4 cord.
Industry standard is to say "with ground" when naming/specifying cable, but for CORD they don't say "with ground"
Cord is just named/specified counting ALL conductors and doesn't say "with ground"

So 10-3 Cable has as many wires as 10-4 Cord... Clear?
