How to get dog to eat after Parvo
My dog was diagosed with Parvo one week ago. I took him to the emergency clinic for the weekend. Then on to the vet that Monday. He stayed on IV fluid and twenty kabillion blood tests to keep track of different things. Diag on Sat and started trying to drink on his own Tuesday morning. (Good sign). But he wasn't able to keep even water down. Well couple more days of IVs for fluids and then IVs for protein. Now Wed he ate about two spoonfuls of canned food. (Yeah!! ) Thursday went to a little more but today he hasn't or won't eat anything. Still drinks water on his own and is now keeping it down. No bowel movement in a week. :( Last day of protein IV tommor and out comes the IV needle. Any suggestions on foods. Should I start forcing him to eat? Maybe someone has gone through the Parvo virus and can tell me how long it took there dog to eat. Help please!

Wow you are lucky. Parvo is most generally fatal. I'm so glad you caught it in time. Please do a Google search on parvo and learn all you can about keeping your dog isolated as not to infect any other dogs. The disease can be transmitted up to 3 weeks after treatment.
As far as a diet. Feed bland food at first anything that your dog will tolerate to help get his strength back. Although other may disagree, Boil some chicken and feed the cooked broth from the chicken at first, the little bits of the chicken as tolerated. Your dog is starving and ANY protein that you can get in him right now will be beneficial. Here is a good link to start with.

Well just to give an update. Got up this morning and he has more energy than he has had in a week. Tail was wagging, he was standing up (lately just laying there) and he jumped in the bed and started licking like normal. He actually ate some moist dog food on his own this morning. (Yeah again) Took him back to the vet and stuck a protein IV bag on him. You could tell he didn't really want to be back up there. I pick him back up in 3 hours and WE should be done with the vet for a week or so. Have to take him back to get revaccinated. My other dog is fine and got another parvo vaccination a Monday after my other dog failed the Parvo test. She is fine and not having any type of issues. Thankfully. Guess we will wait and see what he wants to eat this afternoon. If anyone has a dog who gets Parvo. I recommend Parvoguard. It is not licensed by the FDA yet but it works. Its an herbal medicine given orally that coats the dogs stomach and intestines. I had it overnighted and within 3 hours of taking it is when he first ate food on his own. Thank goodness for that stuff. My vet was even surprised. He had never heard of it but said he will now recommend it to his other customers.
Ill keep you posted. Let me know if you have questions about the ordeal or Parvo. Thanks.

Thanks for the update! I am SO glad things are working out.. Parvo is one nasty disease. This is one reason I EMPLORE people to pick up after their pets on walks.
