1st time offender in Indiana Class D Felony for Theft
I am freaking out because last month I was picked up at Walmart for theft and was charged with a Class D Felony, this is my first and last offense. I was bonded out of jail and a few days later I found out I was pregnant with my 2 child so I really have a lot on the line. People have told me to plead not guilty but I was on camera stealing and I know what I did, so people have me confused on what to plead. I just want to stay out of jail I cannot afford a lawyer I know the court will appoint me one but I am still freaking out am I going to jail pregnant? Court is in 3 days and I am very very stressed out. I know what I did was wrong and stupid, I feel very guilty. Anyone with some advice as to what I should say at court? Or know what will happen to me? This is in Indiana.

You plead not guilty at this point, if you plead guilty, there is no room for a plea deal. You plead not guilty, get an attorney appointed and have them arrange a plea deal ( that way you know what will happen ) and then change your plea to guilty to accept the deal.

Also just being guilty does not mean they can convict you, the evidence has to be allowed, a good attorney tries to find ways to keep the evidence out.
