Why would someone be arrested for "criminal registration only"? Also, why would they be arrested and released almost instantaneously? Thanks.

As you've described it, I would think it amounts to false arrest. There's something weird about this. Cops can't arrest you "for criminal registration only." They need "probable cause".

Isn't the criminal registration program part of the sexual predator Court system?

I am located in FL. I searched the term and it did speak about sexual preditors but it also stated something about convicted felons having to register their address with the "criminal registration unit" with 48 hours of release from jail, moving between counties or within counties...

A convicted felon, once he's completed his sentence, doesn't have to register with anybody, unless he's a sex offender.

I can't find that and I would be interested in your research.

I find criminal registration only as it pertains to sexual predators. I also find references to people on that registration being questioned in connection with Megan's Law.

Hopefully someone who knows will come along but in the meantime I am interested because I don't know. Of course, none of this actually answers your question and for that I apologize.

The Criminal Registration Unit was formed in 2003 in response to FS 775 that pertains to Criminal Registrations. All Sexual Predators, Sexual Offenders, Career Criminals, and other convicted felons must report to the CRU within 48 hours of moving into the county or moving within the county or their release from prison/jail.

The staff from the CRU works closely with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to insure information is current and available.

I looked up Florida statute 775. I didn't find it useful at all. It says that "career criminals" need to register when they come to town, but it doesn't say what a "career criminal" is...

Now, I've never been convicted of "career criminality", so even though I've got SEVERAL convictions, I'm not one... Right??

Or are they trying to trap me?? No matter. The law, as written, is so vague that I can't even tell if I qualify - hence, it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL..

I should have explained: " Career Offenders are individuals who have been designated by a court as a habitual violent felony offender, a violent career criminal, or a three-time violent felony offender under s. 775.084 or as a prison releasee reoffender under s. 775.082(9) AND who are serving or have been released from sanction in the State of Florida on or after July 1, 2002."

And I agree - it's open to interpretation (from what I can tell).

Here is an example of how it works, say I committed a felony and was put on probation, and I was required to take a U.N.A when visiting my probation officer. So after my initial visit after getting out of jail I had to report in a month later to my probation officer. He gives me the u.n.a test and I fail it, then you are charged with criminal registrant. I am a convicted felon. Did seven years in TN. Did time for 33 counts of Grand larceny, theft over $10,000 and burglary other habitation My times done. I now live in Florida were I am trying to build a new foundation for a better life. Trying to live the American dream instead of taking it. But by law I must register and be booked in with the charge "Criminal Registrant". Within 48 hours. Doesn't sound like a big deal right. The only problem is that web sites that make criminal registrant sound like a sex crime like mugshotsworld.com and Florida.arrests.org They charge me to take down my info so the first thing you see when you goggle my name is not my past mistakes but who I am now. I hate the person I once was. But I hate even more that someone is making millions off it. And taking much needed money from low income family's.
