    Being Stalked
My husband recently passed away. It was a suicide. His father has been threatening me, harassing me and now my son. The police are fully aware of the entire situation. I could not go to the grave, the funeral home had undercover police at funeral for fear he would do something. The police have been called to my house more than one time, he has threatened to kill me and my children. He continues to call our phones and anybody else he thinks will tell him where we are. This has been going on for well over a month. The city police told me they cannot do anything to him until he actually does something to one of us. They then told me that my best bet is that I needed to move away. I had to leave the town, had no money, gave up a job, etc. The man will not stop!! I keep reporting what he is doing to the police there and same answer... can't do anything. I need to know if I can do anything this is terrible. I live 1000 miles away and I am still being stalked by this man.

Why can you not get an Order of Protection/Restraining Order?

I do not know. I have asked police and that was the only answer I get. Change numbers and leave state. One officer did tell me it won't do any good.

Well it will do some good, it will give the police more authority to stop his harassment.

Try a Domestic Violence Shelter in your area.

First stop talking to the police,
    Talk to an attorney,

Next go to the court and get a order of protection. Then if he comes within so many feet of you, or contacts you ( phone calls) he can be arrested.

Sounds like police not wanting to do their job.

Next don't let them change your life style, so he is threatening, if he really was going to kill you he would not call and would have done it by now ( odds are for that) he wants to scare you for some reason.

Next do change your number, no big deal there.

Oops! I am just at my end thought it was in the right spot. I have tried to talk to the DA there and they won't talk to me either. I did block their calls but it doesn't stop. I did sit and put down on paper the entire situation and mailed to his father but it didn't help. The police even showed him all of the evidence... notes, phone calls etc. What kind of lawyer do I need to contact? As I said I am in another state now. His dad truly will do something if he can find me he came to my house with a shot gun and the police just made him go home. That is why they told me to move out of state.

I am going to try this again.

Contact your local Domestic Violence shelter immediately, they can help you get an order of protection. Be a squeaky wheel, the police force has to protect you, call until you are blue in the face. It's their liablity, check your local phone book and start phoning attorneys for a referrel.

Several states now have anti-stalking laws. Did you move to a state with such laws?

If you have someone out to get you what good is a anti stalking law?
    Or a domestic shelter?
    Or a restraing order.
I would never count on the failing government to keep me safe,if someone was out to get me,I would load up and confront the m-fer but that's how I roll

It may not be any good, but it can't hurt.
