I'm in nc an inspector called me and told me to dial in a footing where I'm going to build a wall. I might drill about 8 two foot long rods into the existing 18' long footing then lay two #5 continuous rods tied to the rebars. Put some visqueen down. Here in oxford nc carolina they want the footing to be 16" wide and 12" deep from finished surface. What the heck is dialing in I think its native talk. Thanks alex

I'm in Pa. contractor for 30+ years and I never heard dialing in footer.

I think it may be doweling in the footer.

To use "Steel dowel rods"

Rebar is round like a dowel. "wood dowel"

I feel it's a local slang word from 'doweling" with a butchered accent.

In the old old days smooth steal rods were used to pin in concrete, and added to footers.

A piece of round reg steel stock is called a dowel rod and the probably meant doweling in the concrete and it sounds like dialing in accent.

Or an other way to slang it. " re baring in the concrete"

I just think they never adapted to the new terminology.

I've been pushing crete for over 30 years and still pour constantly. Never heard of 'dialing in concrete"
