    Internet connection
Please forgive me for not knowing the proper terminology here. I hope you get the point.

My question is I was wondering how come my internet works by the symbol at the bottom right hand corner of the screen that shows your internet connection is showing that it is not connected. The symbol of the computer with little waves coming out of it. I know, pathetic aren't I? LOL We just change IPS (?) and we had to reconfigure our router. Both of our computers are wireless. The laptop is fine but the desktop is the one with the problem. The last time I used it, it seemed to cut out on me. I have done everything I know (which isn't much) but I don't understand how to change the symbol at the bottom. Something obviously isn't quite right, but what?

Can you right click on this mysterious symbol? If you can, does it give you an option to connect?

Yes I can and yes it does. It shows our wireless connection name and it says we are not connected. We are on a secure connection of our own and the only other one in range is also secured. We are not hooked up with any cords or anything. The internet still works.

Is the router sending wireless signals to both computers? I have a wireless router but due to uneven signals I went with the wire.

Yes the router is sending signals to both but the one is not showing up as connected. Maybe I shouldn't worry about it and just be happy to have a connection. I just don't know how it's happening. I wanted to make sure it was done right.

Is the antenna still connected on your modem, or did it shift to a different position? You may have tried this, but go to start>settings.network connections.

Here you should see "local area connection" and you can check your connection through that icon or create another connection.

So I found out that my router was on the fritz. I sat on the phone with their service department for just over 2 hours and we got it fixed up. Then one day it just stopped working all together. I went and got another one, now I just have to hook it up. Thanks shunned for your assistance.
