My husband and I bought another home and let my 32 yr. old son, his girlfriend, and 3 kids move into our old house. He lived there 2 years and paid only 3 house payments, tore the house up, and left me with a total mess. To top it off he sold a riding lawn mower I had at the house and kept the money. I'm at my wits end. The house is going into foreclosure and due to the nature of my job, it may cause me to lose my job, not to mention he has ruined my credit.

I am devastated. My husband (his stepfather) is furious and I don't know what to do now. How could he do something like this to his own mother? Can our family overcome this?

If your going to rent to someone, you need to treat them like a renter.
Would you have kicked 5 people out if they only paid 3 house payments? I would have, and I also would have kicked my son out if I needed the money to keep my house.

Horrible things happen between parents and children, I'm sorry this happened to you, but you must have seen it coming? Time usually heals things.

Are you wondering if HE will ever get over it or if YOU will ever get over it?

You are the victim here. He sounds like a very iresponsible person for that age and if you are waiting for a normal relationship with him again, you might have to wait until he grows up.

I hope the relationship with your husband doesn't suffer from it.
EDIT: you need to work on yourself at this point. Your son only seems to be thinking about himself.
