Exercise. No eating for at least a few hours before sleep. No caffeinated products after noon. Meditation. See your doctor.

Try to go to bed at the same time every night. Have a regular bedtme routine that you follow. My bachelor friend thanks you for mentally reshelving his books. Is there some other boring and repetitious thing you can do in your head as you lie there? -- recite poems you've learned or count backwards from 1,000?

It also helps to not sleep until noon every day as well... meaning get up at a regular time as well as going to bead at a regular time... keeping it to around 8 hours at most.

Thanks for the suggestions. I exercise everyday now I'm school holidays I go for a run in the mornings, I don't drink caffeine just water sometimes after a run I might drink a power aid but nothing else hate drinking soft drinks too much sugar yuk! Some nights I get so tired I fall asleep easily but I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep and stay awake until the next night when I eventually fall asleep over and over. I just find it hard to get back to sleep I do try laying there for an hour or two before I get bored and end up reading or go on iPad. Never really tried meditation have to give that a try been to the doctors but she doesn't want me to have anything while I'm taking my new medication. I went to the health shop this morning seen some herbal sleeping pills thinking of giving them a try see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestions give them a try be good just to sleep through one whole night.

One of the things that I found is if I wake up in the middle of the night there is something that my body wants done. I learnt a while back that it is usually to piddle. I didn't have to go, IE I wasn't doing the pee-pee dance or in danger of soiling the bed, but I did have to empty my bladder and I went right back to sleep. I say this only as an example, but you should maybe figure out if there is a reason that you're waking up. Do you need a drink? Snack? Potty break? Your mind berating you for that stupid thing you did four years ago?

You should figure out why your sleep quality is poor. Is the room the right temperature, low light, low noise, and the like. It is also advantageous to develop a bed time routine. Some of the important things is to refrain from electronics, ipads included, for at least an hour. Read/unwind from the evening and put yourself in a more relaxed state. Meditation if you would. You need to let your body know that you're ready for bed. You should be able to go to sleep from there. Sleep pills should be the last resort in my opinion.

    Good luck and sweet dreams.

Thank you for the suggestions I will try them all. I think the reason I'm waking up is from my dreams I've been having really strange dreams don't really remember a lot about them. Sometime they feel so real wondering if maybe it's a side affect of my medication :(

Do NOT try meditation. Meditation energizes you and is not recommended to help someone fall asleep.

It's was just some herbal sleeping tablets, they are just suppose to make you relax. Sick of not getting a full nights sleep it's 3:15 am now and I've been awake for two hours over it

    Meditation, not medication.

Sorry my bad totally didn't read that properly. Guess that's what I get for reading posts in the middle of the night. Won't try meditation then if it makes you feel energised. Think I might try going for a run in the afternoon as well as morning see if that helps but thanks for the advice :)

I actually don't agree with Athos. There are different types of meditation. Some are meant to relax you, others are meant to energize you. I'd still consider meditation if I were you. It's a way to clear your mind before sleep.

But do follow the other advice given. No caffeine after noon, no alcohol after 9pm. Try to limit your fluid intake for at least an hour before bed so you don't need to get up to pee.

Have you ever considered seeing a sleep therapist? There are many people with sleep issues, and there are many therapists and clinics to help with these issues. It's not a small issue by any means. Many people suffer from this. You're definitely not alone.
