Why would my cat be screaming for no reason?
He screams whenever he's off by himself. He's older, still active although losing some weight. He will generally quit when I call him to come over. I don't know why he is screaming all the time now... not just at night. He's never done this before. I have recently taken him for tests and such. No UTI or Kidney problems.

Your cat could be in pain. You may need to take him to the vet and have a professional check it out. You could check its nails and make sure that its claws aren't broken. Check its fur and make sure that there are no matts in it. Are there any other problems this cat has?

No problems... he's just getting old... he's almost 18 now. We were just at the vet last month.. and nothing is wrong. His nails are fine, mats are not a problem.

If the vets have not found a problem, maybe he just wants attention. My cats are both very vocal, almost to the point of "screaming" like you say, but they just like to talk and do it for attention. Maybe this could be the case..

Yea I suppose it could be... but he walks away from me then does it. I'm just worried he's getting old and its something more. As if he's wanting so much cause its getting to be that time or something.

Considering that he's doing it when he's off by himself and that hearing your voice shuts him up, I suspect he's needing to know you are there. Given his age, he may be losing some of his senses, or even just getting a little senile. Is he still getting around OK? Maybe he can't follow you like he'd like to.

I have a cat who will sometimes meow almost like a female in heat and calling his name shuts him up. Except he's not old, he's just always been like that. But I figure he mostly needs to know I'm aware that he's there.

When he does that, you might try getting him and bringing him into the same room and see if it helps.

Was he screaming a month ago?

Yes for a few months now. He gets around fine... maybe he's just worried about being alone or away. I was just wondering.
