I just received a wage garnishment through my employer for my student loan. I wanted to know if my income taxes are going to be taken too. I am a single parent and need the money. I never received a letter stating that my income takes would be taken but is the student loan company obligated to send me that information. I did in fact get the notice regarding the wage garnishment but really need to know if my income taxes are going to be taken away from me too.

If you have a private student loan company, you are probably OK.
If the loan was backed up by the federal government, that may be a problem.
I would suggest you call the IRS and ask them your question.
I have found the IRS to be very helpful.

Actually you were lucky to receive a notice of the garnishment before it started, normally you don't, a few states have notice laws, but they are often ignored since normally there is no penalty for not obeying. And often no, you will not get a notice until the check is taken by them and the IRS sends you a notice they took the money
