Yellow wire from the fan itself or from the ceiling box or remote receiver?

This does not sound like any standard wiring I have seen, sorry I can't help further. What other wires and colors come from the fan?

The other wires are red, white, green, black, and blue. The yellow wire is the only one and it is short. I believe it goes to the white wires because if I hook it to the red one it turns the blades in reverse. But the fan is not running at full speed. Before the wires were cut the fan ranned perfectly fine.

I only expect black (hot for fan), blue (hot for light), white (neutral) and green (ground) You are saying these are all coming out of the fan and going toward the ceiling box, right?
