Here's the long and the short of it. My Daughter pulled the drain plug out of the washing machine (found at bottom front of my European Zanussi Washer/Dryer combo) during a wash and water went everywhere. The only way I could see to reinstall it is by putting the machine on its side and putting the hose back on. Unfortunately, I had softener in the soap tray that hadn't gone through the wash yet and it leaked over the electrics.

When I start the machine, I now hear an electrical surge and then it completely stops.

Does anyone know what the damage could be and if it's possible that the softener will actually dry up or..?

Looking for direction on this one.

I can't believe that the drain plug can acutally come off so easily. What a shame that such a minor problem might have cost me my whole machine...

Well if you got soap on the electronics then what your hearing/smelling is short circuiting and the wires burning, surprising that it didn't blow a fuse first. It may have permanent damage to the electronics. Either take it somewhere or clean it yourself and see if it works afterwords.

The soap may have to be rinsed with water before this as the soap will not evaporate, make sure its unplugged first then rinse the area of the soap spill. Then leave the machine unplugged for at least 1 or 2 full days. If after all this it still makes noises that sound like short circuiting or doesn't run properly then you will have to have a professional look at it.

I have to admit, I wouldn't even know where to begin to clean the machine. Looking through the top of it, reveals loads of wires and electrics on the reight side of the machine.

The sound I hear ( for the purpose of this discussion) is a buzz and then dead stop.
