Relinquishment of Parental Rights form Texas
I am having trouble finding a printable Relinquishment of Parental Rights form for Texas residents online. My ex has agreed to voluntarily sign over all rights of our son and allow my husband to legally adopt. However, I am not able to pay an attorney to draw up these papers, as it will cost me $2500 for my attorney & court & other fees. I have read that I am able to do the process myself, without an attorney, with all necessary documents. Does anyone know where to find this form online for TEXAS?

I don't know where to get it ONLINE.

But I bet you can get it if you take your butt down to the courthouse and ask for it.

HOWEVER---I HIGHLY suggest that you use an attorney. Relinquishment/stepparent adoption situations have enough details that need to be exact for it to be completely legal (and unable to be overturned later!).

I suggest you ask your ex to put up half of the expense.

I wholeheartedly agree with Synnen. Adoption is not a D-I-Y process. If your ex is paying support, he may be very willing to kick in some $$$s since his support obligation will stop. Also you may be able to find an attorney who will take installments.

I'd just like to add here:

Even if you do NOT have an attorney, you will still have to pay the court and processing fees. Adoption and relinquishment are both LEGAL processes, and you will still need to go to court for them.

Thank you for your reply. I have an appointment with an attorney tomorrow. :d
