    My duck can't walk anymore.
I have a baby duck that a chicken hatched out a couple of weeks ago. She refused the duckling and pecked a large hole and exposed the skull. We resuced the duckling and all was fine until last night. The little duck has lost its ability to walk. What might be the problem?

Take it to the vet, it is unfair to let it suffer.

Yes kindest thing would be to put it out of it's suffering. While the duck is worth maybe 10 dollars and the vet bill is likely to be 50 or 60, I would seek the vet's advice if you had say a large flock of ducks and were exzperiencing problems. The problems of one idividual duck, he's not going to be a lot of help solving that.

To answer my own question, I called the vet since it was a Sunday. The vet said to stop the chick start and start feeding the duckling corn meal because the chick start sometimes has too much protein for ducklings to handle and causes gout which is swelling of the joints. I started giving the duckling the corn meal and as far as I can tell is recovering. It's only been a day and the duckling is starting to use it's legs again. Thanks for the answers but sometimes a phone call and some time is the best answer.

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she lay her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm so sorry, your Duck, Cuddles, has passed away." The distressed...
