Ok, if I have this correctly, the driver deviated the car to avoid hitting the boy?

What are one or two more words that mean the same as the driver deviating the car?

Ok. Since this is obviously something that you are having to do so that you can learn, I'm going to give you some choices here. Perhaps any of them could work. But, maybe not, because I don't know the purpose as to why you are having to answer the question. Your key word here is "deviate." Which of the words or combinations of those below do you think best fit the definition of "deviate" according to how it is being used in your question?

    Steers away
    Turns sharply
    Turns abruptly
    Turns wheel
    Veers away
    Turns
    Swerves
    Swerves quickly
    Swerves abruptly
    Thinks quickly
    Turns quickly
    Acts impulsively
    Acts instinctively
    Acts responsively
    Turns aside
    Veers sideways
    Veers right
    Veers left
    Changes direction
    Changes course
    Diverts away
