The downside of tampons, is that if you bleed heavy, they get saturated, hard to get out and don't do the job. There are many many pads on the market now and are graded for what kind of flow you have. Perhaps you aren't using the best one available.

I know it is uncomfortable, but if you are bleeding that heavy you should consult your doctor, who has some ideas for you to toss around. Or, you could also use the menstrual cup and here is a website to look at www.DivaCup.com

It took me a while to get used to start using tampons but trust me you will be so much happier once you realize how wonderful it is. True it is odd putting it in and getting butterflies in your stomach. I know the fear! But the best way is to, when you're not on your period, allow yourself to explore inside with a finger and travel the path that a tampon would. In that way you'll be able to visualize the way the tampon is going and it will NOT hurt. I know it's emberrasing but trust me. Tampons are lifesavers. Tickle says that they get "saturated" but when a tampon is full it's actually easier to take out... I don't know why he's saying it's harder...

I find that standing up and positionioning the tampon below me is easier. All you have to do is guide it.

I never go higher than regular just because the bigger the tampon the higher chance it is of getting toxic shock syndrome. That and the fact that the thing looks huge! So I use regular and on a heavy day I change it about 4-5 times depending. It's much safer :). You can also try the very small tampons (I find them quite cute).

    Hope that helped :D

If you are just starting to get your period, I recommend sticking to pads for a while, but it doesn't hurt to explore and see what works for you.

I started getting my period when I was 10 and tried both pads and tampons. The tampon seemed like it was impossible to get in, so I didn't try is again until I got older.

If you do want to try a tampon, I recommend buying a box that has both regular and super sizes (I usually buy Kotex). Start with the regular, because it's smaller and easier to get in. Then try the larger ones. If you have trouble getting the tampon in don't worry too much about it. Try guiding your finger in either sitting down or standing and then put the tampon in the same way in the same position.
