    We're a nervous wreck, what does this brown discharge mean?
    Hi, if anybody can please help us it would be greatly appreciated.
    My girlfriend is on the 'daily ge' birth control pill .She has been on this for 17 months now. She originally started on a different pill but has been on the daily ge for about a year or so I would say.
    We always have unprotected sex and usually use the withdrawal method (I understand this is stupid and have certainly done my research now and won't be doing it again). However today my girlfriend had a 'brown discharge' similar to that at the beginning and end of the period. She is due on her period in about a week and this has never happened before. It has been 5 days since we last made the earth move and we are petrified from what we have read that it may mean pregnancy. We are too young and not in a financial position to be having a child. Does anybody have any ideas what this may be? We have done a pregnancy test (sensitive one) but it came up as negative however from what I have read this may be because she has not yet had her periods?
    PLEASE PLEASE HELP US IT IS STRESSING US OUT!!
    P.S She has been rather stressed lately.
    I know 'she' isn't a very nice way to talk about her but I would rather remain anonymous as her brother is considerably bigger than me! :eek:

    Dan,

    Has she been taking her pill at the same time every day? Has she missed a pill?

    Hi J9,
    Thank you for replying so promptly, no she hasn't been taking her pill at the same time. Could you please tell us if there is a test we can take that will give us any results even though she is a week before she is due her period.

    Unfortunately you are both playing the waiting game now. She should wait until her missed period before testing so that it will be more accurate.

    The pill must be taken at the same time every day for it to be effective. Since she is not taking it at the same time, she may be experiencing breakthrough bleeding.
