My mom has been on hormones since she had a Hysterectomy at age 23 and she has been on hormones constantly for over 25 years and think she has only been of them for a fem months. She was on this one type of hormone that was very strong and every time my mom would go to the doctor he would prescribe the same medicine and knew what she takes. Finally my mom changed doctors for some reason!. and he immediately took her off the pill she was on and put her on a less strong hormone because he said that the one she was originally on was VERY strong and much more likely to cause cancer.

I do not know the name of this pill but I will ask my mom in the morning and let you guys know what both are called. Anyway I am worried about my mom because she has been on hormones for so so long and takes them everyday religiously and has never been off them, I think she told me that her doctor took her off for a few months years back but still she has been on them for a long time and she is 49. I worry about her because cancer runs VERY strong in our family and my moms mother died of cancer when she was only 35 and my mom was 2 years old and never knew her mom and my moms sister recently died of cancer as well at age 53. I am worried because cancer is everywhere is our family!!


My mom is the healthiest of all of her sisters though because all of my moms sisters are overweight and really do not take good care of themselves but my mom takes vitamins religiously and eats healthy, good weight and excersizes.

To top all of this my mom started back smoking though, my mom would be healthy other then this.. My mom started smoking when she was like 15 and quit when she was about 28 and now out of the blue for no reason she started smoking again. She started back 2 years ago and I don't know why! She hid it from everyone for awhile and I found out and it really hurt me because I didn't and still don't understand why or what made her start back.


To top this my mom takes a lot of other medication that she claims that she has to have.. She takes a medication called Fenagen, I don't know if I spelled it right! She takes this constantly everyday for several years. She is NOT addicted but she sais that she gets very nauseus and will throw up if she don't take it. I cannot begin to tell you how many tests that she has taken. You name every test ever made and I promice that she has took it. She has took about a million tests and the doctors said she has gurd which could be causing it but they keep her on the medication. My mom never takes any pain medication but mostly all she takes is nauseus medication which is fenagen and prilosec for heartburn, gerd etc and her hormones. My mom sais that she will vommit constantly if he doesn't take the fenegan and I don't know why she gets to nauseaus. Finally with the medication she was taking it made her "Prolactin: levels go up and she had to take more medication. The dr was shocked at her prolactin levels and it is back to normal now but the dr told her that the fenegan can cause that and so she started taking Taigan for a while but switched back because she sais that taigan don't work as well.


I need to know how dangerous it is taking fenagen and hormone medication for several years non-stop. Her same doctors keep giving it to her so I guess they see no problem, although she has switched doctors a few times in the past. Other than this my mom is very active and she is beautiful I love my mom and care about her a lot and want to keep her healthy. My mom also goes for a lot of her physical exams and other tests. She takes colon tests often because her sister died of colon cancer and her other sister had a polyps and luckily had it removed but the other sister did not make it. My mom claims that she is fine and much healthier than her sisters though because she takes vitamins, eats healthy, etc. My mom also takes all of her other regular exams like breast exam, pap smear and more tests also.. but I can't help but wonder how the hormones effected her all those MANY years and the other medication also. Is there any research on hormone pills and cancer and if so which cancer has been known to have been caused by the hormone pills? Thanks for any information or advice support that you can give.

P.S Why I am mostly worried is because my mom was on that strong hormone for 25 years and it is the same one that her knew dr took her off. He also sounded shocked that she was on such a strong pill and said that it is way too strong for her and took her off. ( I am sorry I honestly don't know much about hormones, etc and that is why I don't know anything and what the difference is between the different pills) but this got me worried because of the cancer issue and she has been on the new pill that is less strong for about a year and doing perfectly fine. What's the difference, I don't understand!. and why would she be on that pill for so long if it was as harmful as he made it look.
