    Blood clots
For the past couple of months when I get my period I have very big blood clots that come with it. This is unusual for me. Sometimes have more then 7. Is this a problem?

If its not normal for you I would make an appointment to see a doctor. It may be nothing, but better safe than sorry.

I would go see your dr, but it could just be that your periods are getting heavier. I have had terrible heavy periods for years, lots of big clots, so I went on the pill and they are much lighter now. Talk to your dr, heavy periods can cause anaemia.

Are you on birth control pills? When I first started taking because pills, I used to get large clots of blood with my periods. I discovered that some because pills can cause blood clots. Since I have cardiovascular disease in my family, I decided to stop taking them altogether. If you are on the pill, you should definitely tell your gynecologist about these clots. You may need to change to another pill or another form of birth control altogether.

Another possibility is endometriosis, which can also cause menstrual clots. I, too, had this problem along with very heavy periods and severe pre-menstrual pain off and on that I dismissed as bad periods -- which run in my family. It wasn't until several years later that I was diagnosed with endometriosis. By the time I was finally diagnosed, a huge mass of cysts had formed and filled my pelvic cavity. I had to have surgery to remove the mass and "all" of my reproductive organs. Luckily, they got it just before it attached to my intestines.

You may want to have your gynecologist examine you for endometriosis and ask him or her to order an abdominal/pelvic sonogram. That's very important, because it is very hard to detect endometriosis in the early stages through pelvic exam alone. I'm living proof of that. In fact, it is often overlooked altogether in the early stages -- as it was with me. If your gynecologist is dismissive, then go to someone else. I had to go to 5 doctors before one would take my pain and other symptoms seriously. They just kept telling me nothing was wrong and that I was just suffering from stress and anxiety. Never mind that I also had anemia -- another symptom of endometriosis that is caused by the internal bleeding. And, the doctor that treated me for anemia was on the Top Doctors list in DC. Abdominal/pelvic pain plus anemia... Seems like a no brainer that those two symptoms would indicate some sort of internal bleeding. Not sure how a top doc missed that one.
