OK, so you can wire into your router and it works, but not when you use the wireless connection? Have you checked security settings on the eireless connection?

Do you have any wireless security turned on, on your router? When you are trying to connect to a wireless network that is secured, and you type in the wrong password, sometimes it will say you are connected even though your not. Here is a way to check. Go on the laptop that IS online. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on your wireless connection and go to Status. See what is says your IP address is (should be something like 192.168.X.XXX) Now do the same on the laptop that does NOT get online. The last three digits of your IP address should be the only numbers that are different. If the IP address is completely different from the laptop that IS online, my first guess would be is you have the wrong password entered.

I have checked the ip adresses on my personal laptop and the official laptop. . personal laptop is connecting wirelessl and has a static ip address in the 192... range, whereas on my oficial laptop at office we use a dynamic ip address which once I go back to home change back to the static ip address in the same range as the other computers . And I am not prompted for any passwords while connecting

Why do you use static IP at home, and not DHCP? (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - it will automatically assign the IP address)

You can't have BOTH a static and dynamic IP on the same adapter. If you have only one wireless adapter and you use it in both places, then it needs to be dynamic. It will pick up the proper addresses depending on the network it connects to.

You all have public addresses? Something doesn't sound right.

If you are able to connect when the laptop is wired, then I think it has to be something with the wireless security.

Did you setup the wireless network? If someone set it up for you, they should be able to give you instructions to connect to it correctly.
