    Wireless connection?
Before I got my laptop reformatted the wireless connection on it was working fine. It works fine everywhere else but at my friend's house. I can pick up her wireless connection, the signal is very good, but for some reason I can't browse the internet. I tried repairing the connection but I get a message saying that it cannot renew the IP address. I tried unplugging the modem and everything. I went to the command prompt to ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew my IP, but I get a message telling me that "no operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected." I also did the ipconfig /all command, and I saw that there was a No next to IP Routing Enabled and WINS Proxy Enabled. I don't know what else to do, and this was my last resort. If this doesn't work, I think I'll have to get a new computer :( . I'm completely computer illiterate, so can somebody please help me out step by step? I appreciate anyone for helping!

Ok sounds to me that your friends connection is encrypted or filtered.
You need to ask them if it is, and get the network key.

Thanks for replying. Well, she put in her password for me and everything and it still won't work. My other classmate brought her laptop over, and initially she had the same problem, but after my friend put in her network password in my classmate was able to repair her connection on her laptop just fine. It was able to renew my classmate's IP address for her and she was able to browse just fine. It's just not working for me.

    Wireless can be a pain.
Did you try rebooting and trying again saving the network key ?

I agree! I'm ready to pitch it out the window, but I'm only having this problem at her house, and I'm moving in so this really sucks. Yes, I've tried saving and rebooting. Doesn't work. Any other ideas? :o
