    Limited or no connectivity issue
My sony vaio laptop was working fine since last two years and suddenly stopped connecting to internet through wireless or Lan cable. I can see in status it sends packets and not receiving any from router, when I connected through LAN cable it is able to ping the router ip 192.168.1.1 . It is not able to obtain the IP automatically from the DHCP router, and gets the windows default ip 169.254.18.40, when I manually set the IP it says connected but doesn't access the internet... I tried all a lot.. and no luck.. I am not preferring to reinstall the XP as I need many other applns I had to reinstall.. and my sys restore is not working for some reason.
It is able to detect wireless networks, signal strenth... only the thing it is not getting the IP assigned to it from router, not able receive any packets...
No issue with WEP key... when try to do repair it says-windows not able to repair,
I checked with antispyware and antivirus nothing found... applied MS fix for tcpip issues, used netsh to reset the tcpip stack.
Checked the network drivers, no events logged in event viewer..
Execpt internet access rest all OK with my laptop..
Could any one respond and advice it will be a great help!. as I am not connected at all since two weeks and it really killing my time searching for solutions!
    .. thanks for your time!

    Factory reset your router.
There should be a tiny button near the power cord on the router that you can press down with a paperclip. Hold it down for 45 seconds then unplug the power to the router, wait 15 seconds and plug the power back in. Now connect your laptop to the router via the wired LAN and see if you get an IP address. If you do then connect to the router via the web interface (Should be 192.168.1.1 in a web browser) and re-enable the wireless. Then see if you can connect to the wireless LAN.

Let me know if this doesn't resolve the issue.

    Thanks for your reply!

The issue I have found with LAN driver software, whe I reinstalled the LAN driver(original ) the connnectivity is obtained. Earlier, all the time I was tried reinstalling the wireless driver sw and not tried on the ethernet driver sw.
Hope this info helps to some one with similar isssue..
