    Windows XP and internet connection
    Hello,

    Can someone please help me?

Recently I upgraded from Windows 98SE to Windows XP Professional. Now every time I connect to internet and start browsing or downloading, a message flashes on saying “This shutdown was initiated by NT\SYSTEM. Remote Procedure Call Service terminated unexpectedly.. . ” and gives me some 50 seconds to save files and then my computer (P4) shuts down by itself.

I have not only activated the Windows XP, but also registered the product online.

I had bought the Windows XP Prof. some to years ago, but did not load it into my computer as I was happy with 98, and also rather apprehensive of the new OS. I did not even open the polythene wrapper.

    Sincerely yours,

    N. Mozhui

    Windows XP and internet connection
Hello. Software conflicts arise when upgrading to Windows XP. I had a similar problem.
During setup, it scanned my system for possible compatibility issues, but it did not find them all.
While running XP for the first time, I found out the hard way! There were issues with my Virus Program, my firewall, and my soundcard (!).
I had to 'restore' back to my old OS and uninstall the offending programs. After re-installing XP, I was able to reinstall these programs without a bother.
I suggest to you that you copy down the 'error' codes, and speak with your Internet Provider. When I called support it took her 5 seconds to say 'that's a Zone-Alarm conflict' (they must have a big book of error codes!).
Or, if you can back up files that you want to keep, then do a clean install of XP. Clean installation is always better than an upgrade, as there is no chance of any conflict.
