    Why doesn't IE 8 show in control panel/ uninstall programs

    If you installed IE8 over IE7 or 6, it should be in there, but it might not be listed where you think. Look at every line and examine closely (scrolling down). IF IE8 has been integrated onto your install disk, then there will be no removal, just as there would be none for IE6 on an original disk since integration replaces IE 6 with 8.
