Have you searched for drivers? You should be able to get drivers from a driver guide website or the manufacturer's website - just check the make&model info printed on the cards.

You need to take out the sound card and read the info printed on it - write down the make and model (and the other numbers just in case) and then go the sound card manufacturer's website; for example, if you have a soundblaster card, look up soundblaster drivers on Google.

Not all manufacturers provide drivers on their websites (Genius - shamefully - don't even have customer support!! ) so you might have to find it on a drivers guide website.

If you have an odd "OEM" soundcard (mine is an OEM which requires a different driver than the regular one) you will need to quote the exact serial number of the card to the soundcard manufacturer for them to find it for you (they are usually quite helpful if you send them a polite email).

BTW, have you tried the Linux Operating System? If you can't afford Windows, then you can download several versions of Linux that are completely free (and a lot of people think Linux wipes the floor with Windows).
