    Windows XP won't boot
My friend has a laptop, a Fitjitsu Lifebook 5 series which is her work computer. It was running a couple of days ago and is only a couple of months old. Her three year old daughter managed, in the couple of minutes she was out of the room to somehow turn it off. Now when you try to boot the laptop it initially appears to work OK, however, a warning screen then appears offering various options including Last known good configuration (which I've tried! ) and Safe mode or Start windows normally.

When you select any of these options the windows xp screen appears, and just as the loading bar would be about to start the laptop screen goes black and it starts to re boot back to the warning screen.

Nothing was spilt on it and as it's a company computer I'm not in possession of the windows xp disks.

Please can someone help before she has to go to school and explain it with her tail between her legs :)...

What school would she have to explain it to? Schools with IT departments are used to things like this and would make short work of getting it booted again for you.

How's this for an explanation: "My new laptop won't boot. Here, take a look."

That doesn't sound embarrassing, does it?

You are going to need to repair your Windows installation, so there is no reason to attempt yourself what someone knowledgeable will do for you. Let the school take a look at it.

Otherwise, you will need the recovery disks that came with your new laptop, or you will need to do a Factory Restore on it. Try pressing F11 as it first boots and see if you get a Recovery Console that will let you do a Factory Restore. You will most likely lose any data you have on the laptop.

I still recommend letting the school look at it first.

I agree with JB. This is what IT depts do. Running the XP Repair facility should fix this quickly. No reason to explain how it might have happened. They are responsible for fixing it.

I would try to get into safe mode and then try a system restore back to a point when there was no problem

    Through the All Programs menu:

    1.Click Start.

    2.Point to All Programs.

    3.Point to Accessories.

    4.Point to System Tools.

    5.Click System Restore.

    6.
Follow the instructions on the wizard.

Is this a company computer or a school PC?
