    Longhorn 5048 x64 boot problem
I just finished downloading Longhorn and I burned it to dvd bootable disk using Nero 6. I rebooted from the cd drive and get Caldera DR-DOS 7.03. And a command propt at the bottom with a couple of options. When I try any of these options it says command or filename not recognized. I know that Longhorn 64 needs 512 mb ram which I have, no more.

    Longhorn 5048
The version of Longhorn you are talking about,is a beta product, that was intended for testing by selected coders both inside and outside Microsoft. It is not,and never will be a general public release. The next official public release of a new OS from Microsoft is called Windows Vista, and is due to go on sale to the general public over the xmas holiday period 2006.At the moment that product is in test mode with a selected team of coders.

The version of code you have is not a finished piece of work, and will cause all sorts of problems for your PC,not to mention open back door routes for all sorts of unwanted behaviour. What you do with this small slip of code is up to you,but my advice is to delete it,and go out and buy a genuine legal copy of XP.Plus you'l have loads more fun,and less hastle. The wait for Vista next year will be worth it,honest.

That's _not_ right. Microsoft would never ship Caldera's stuff, especially DR-DOS, on anything, _especially_ on something meant for a beta that was distributed to people outside Microsoft at WinHEC.

What this means is that you probably have a copy of Longhorn that has been modified from the original beta version. WHY this was done I don't know, it could have been for either a benevolent or malevolent purpose. However, you have to consider the _possibility_ that whoever modified it also threw in a backdoor or something at the same time. Just so you know. Although that's really the risk you take when you download ANY binaries without a hash of the binaries you know to be "okay."

I'm not telling you this to help you install pirated software, I'm telling you this so you know...

You are missing the point. If you have a legal copy of Longhorn, then you are part of the beta team and you should be reporting these problems to your rep so they can forward it to the coders. Otherwise you have an illegal, pirated copy, (which is much more likely given the mention of Caldera).

You are not going to get help here with pirated software.
