    computer running very slow
Ive already run all the major Spyware checkers and found nothing using Spyware Doctor, Spyware Blaster, Webroot Spy Sweeper, Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy. Also ran the scan within the latest ZoneAlarm and TrendMicro Anti-Virus. Here is my Hijack log. Computer is only 3 months old 3.0 Ghz. Using a cable modem used to get 1 MB now speed is down to 12 kps, slower than dialup! Please help.

VSMon.exe part of ZoneAlarm is taking up about 50% of available memory. Is this normal? Also using TuneUp Utilities 2004, the system advisor said Internet Explorer was taking up an abnormally high amount of resources.

    Here is the HijackThis log:

From the looks of that log file and all the software you have, I don't think that spyware is the problem. Could you answer a few questions for me and we'll see if we can help you some more.

    • When you say your computer is going slowly, do you just mean your internet connection speed or the speed of your PC in general?
    • Do you have a virus scanner? If so, ensure it's definitions are up to date and run a new scan. If not - get one and try running a system scan. Try Avast Antivirus (there's a free home edition) - http://www.avast.com/
    • Is it just Internet Explorer you are having problems with or other programs that access the itnernet?

    Few points:
    • ZoneAlarm shows a list of programs currently accessing the internet - check that.
    • It might be that the sites you are trying to access are experiencing a heavy load and therefore they will be slower than normal

    ZoneAlarm was the problem
I tried shutting down ZoneAlarm and discovered that was the problem slowing down both the internet and the computer. I tried reconfiguring ZoneAlarm but couldn't get the computer to run fast with ZoneAlarm running. I solved the problem by uninstalling ZoneAlarm and then reinstalling it. Still I don't know what within ZoneAlarm caused this, but the reinstall fixed everything.

ZoneAlarm no longer eats up all the CPU resources.

    Thanks for your help.
