Did you installed something before this problem started? Try starting up in safe mode, by pressing F8 when you put your computer on, select safe mode and see if it goes into the safe mode screen, select no when it asks you if you would like to run diagnostics. If it does show a black desktop, then it's more than likely something you installed that it causing the conflict. Or you can run a repair on windows.
Insert your windows CD, you might need the CD key for this, press any key to boot from CD, it will give you a dialog box asking if you want to repair, don't select repair at this screen. Only click repair at the next screen. Then leave it to run like a normal installation. When it reboots again during the installation, don't press any keys, just let it run itself.
And this should sort you out
