    why am I gaining weight?
About a month ago I decided I need to lose weight, I have started walking 30min a day 5x a week, stopped eating fast food, junk food and drinking soda. I eat breakfast now rather than skip it I sip on water all day about 6-8 glasses and I have been eating pretty healthy food (lots of fruits and vegetables). I have been doing this for about a month does anyone know why I have gained 5 pounds. I am 31 years old and 5'4 and now weigh 193 started at 188.

Just a few suggestions, maybe you are wearing different clothes while weighing yourself, maybe the scales are not on a flat or even floor or maybe you are pregnant, just a few maybes hoped it helped, take care, love and peace anne x

Muscle weighs more than fat. Possibly more water weight. These things take time.

I agree with Matt3046. You are walking and gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat but takes up less room. You should soon start seeing a weight loss as well as your clothes should start feeling loose.

Try different exercises, aerobic, biking, reistance training, also it takes time and patience, Muscle weighs more than fat also. Another thing it's a better idea not to weigh yourself on a regular basis. Portion size is another area you might look into, check to see what a serving size is on the nutritional labels and stick to it, a serving size of meat is only 2-3 oz, the size of an open palm, for instance.. Also calcium regulates energy metabolism, which increase fat breakdown and decreases the amount of body fat. If you'll eat 3-4 servings per day you'll lose more weight and body fat. Low fat, or skim milk, low fat , skim or partially skim cheese and lowfat yogurt. (1 serving size is 1 cup milk, yogurt and 1 1/2 oz of cheese.)The calcium seems to increase the bodys core temperature and causes it to burn calories faster. A small reduction in calories might also help 10-15% is going to protect lean muscle and less likey to slow metabolism down. As your body loses weight it needs less calories, as you lose weight, reduce food intake, more muscle mass the easier it is to burn fat. Your body adjust to all new calorie intakes.

OMG! I'm exactly the same!I've been walking now for 11 weeks, 4 x times per week, 3 miles each time and I've gained 6lbs! And am so so disappointed its untrue... I need help and a quick fix to kick start this weight loss - I won't give up the walking as I'm enjoying it really, but its disappointing.
