Weight watchers! My friend just lost 10 pounds and she is in your situation!

    HEre are a few tips.

    Whole grains
    Wheat meat chicken breast
    Fish
    Cut back on red meat
    Lots of water!
    Fruits, veggies of course.
Try not to eat the whole bread and pasta, if you do have whole weat or just cut back on portions.

Last but not least, a little bt of exercise in your day :)

If you crave sweets, there are plenty of low-cal snacks provided by weight watches or you can just have a little piece of what your craving this why you satisfy yourself with out over doing it.

If you want some good foods to eat, and good low fat recipies, just ask!
;) I may not respond ASAP but I will!

Good luck with your weightloss! You can do it!

I would pretty much say what the above poster said. Although, if you were craving something sweet, just drink a quart of water or a water bottle to train your body not to eat.

Also, for exercise, do HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training. It helps burn of fat fast and the workouts are short (~ 8 - 15min). High Intensity Interval Training!

Sorry AilBane-nothing personal, I agree and then I somewhat disagree.

Only because, well.. Water doesn't give you nutritional value, and filling your body with just water when your slightly hungry isn't a good idea.
although when you crave food its only mentally. You don't really want the food, normally craving food means a sign of stress, or another another uncomforting feeling. Talking a walk normally helps stop the craving- At least this is how my body works, everyone else works differently haha.

If I crave something I normally have a little piece this way I don't sit there all day craving it. Because when you finally do give in- you start to bindge.
Its hard ot give up sweets and foods you love very fast- this is why you take it slow- cut back little by little.
because dieting isn't a 5 month thing- it's a life style- and switching into another lifestyle takes some time and adjustment for your body to maintain homeostasis.

If you diet properly, your sure to shed the weight fast- overweight people lose weight at a faster pace because they have more body fat to lose, unlike someone who is at there ideal weight it would be more difficult for them to lose, so the first 2 or 30 pounds are sure to be fast but you have to be patient :) Its going to be tough but I believe you can do it!
You have all of us here at AMHD for support :)

    *A few tips for me
    1.Water is very helpful.
2.Try not to eat too much sodium
3.Atleast have 1,000-1,500 calories a day. (I know sounds like a lot but with exercise it helps your body burn more)
4.5 small meals a day- to keep your metobolism going
    5.Whowheats and grains are great
6.Flaxseedd is also very healthy, along with fish oil
7.New to exercising? No problem. No one is asking you to run that mile already.
Each day take it slow until you get to your own pace
Example- Work out for 10 minutes then increase to 20 then 30 and so on.
4 times a week is good to keep your body healthy-

buttt Everything people tell you are things that work for them- in all honesty, you have your own body type, and the best thing to know what your body needs is from a nutritionist. You should go to your doctor and talk to her about this :). She/He can measure your body fat- put you on a good diet, and tell you what YOUR body needs to go to the right weight!

I hope this helped and I hope you do a great job on the diet!

Don't worry HarajukuGirl, no offense taken by me. Maybe I should have elaborated.

Lets say the topic creator (norma0828) eats 5-6 meals (no huge portions) a day, which should happen to keep metabolism up. Between those meals you could have healthy snacks like veggies/fruit/energy bar as you indicated.

Times may be different for different people, but this is how I usually eat.
**Note: Small portion meals + exercise (HIIT) 2-3 times a week**

    Breakfast (6:00 a.m. - 7)
    insert
    Lunch (11- noon)
    insert
    Mid-afternoon meal (2-3 p.m.)
    insert
    Late afternoon meal (5:30 p.m.)
    insert
    Dinner (7-8)

Everyplace where I put "insert" depends on what you ate for a meal . If it was high in calories, then eat a carrot stick or something similar. If it was low, then maybe an energy bar or 1-2 Hershey's kisses if you want something sweet.

    HOWEVER

The topic creator shouldn't be eating snacks all the time UNLESS they're going to be active during the day. Fruit have fructose and energy/snack bars are meant for calories. I learned that the hard way - I gained a pound just by eating raisins every day LOL.
So water does help in that situation, or going for a walk just like you said. :)
A person's goal should be to lessen the caloric intake (ie watch eating habits). And that depends on a person's BMI/height/etc. Minimal weight training should be added too.

For example - (last time I calculated mine), my intake was about 2200 cal daily. Then I tried lowering it to 2100,. now down to 1750 cal and staying active/weight training.

Don't worry norma0828, I used to be in your situation at Christmas/New Years 06, since then, I've lost 20lbs by mentally sticking to my New Years resolution. I'm sure you can do it, just like HarajukuGirl said, you have all of us here for encouragement.

Personally, I think dieting is a very personal thing, what works for me may not be right for you. I've been on a zillion diets and I have to say the only one that worked well for me was counting calories (I was on a 1000 calories a day), watching portions, drinking plenty of water (no less than 8-8oz glasses a day), and moderate exercise. I also took a mulitple vitamin each day.

First thing I do is look at what I'm eating and then decide what to cut out and what to cut down on. Increasing exercise and decreasing intake are the only things that work to lose weight.
