Personally, I wouldn't know what steps to take, but my aunt has the same problem. She has learned that drinking all that water helps but too much can cause you to have water retention, like make you swell.
I am pregnant, and know what you mean about the cravings, which I was recently put on a strict diet due to the gestational diabetes... and all I want is something sweet!! And its late at night. My suggestion may not be the healthiest... I bought some graham crackers, and some honey peanut butter, it doesn't take much and it kills the craving... another snack when I want ice cream, instead I bought some Sherbert and that has really helped. If you set you a diet plan, unproffesionally, if you can't afford the professional help, is to set down, and write you out a diet plan, like for say a week, on healthy things that you can eat, and smaller portions, which I am sure you can find a website that will help with that. They say never eat a serving that is bigger than your fist. If you eat out their serving is sooooo over portioned! Always get a to-go box... eat half or less.. or if its too tempting for later than night, don't even get a to-go box!
Sorry that its prob not what you wanted, but I just wanted to add my suggestions. Good Luck!
