What is the typical cost spent on a wedding gift?
I was invited to a wedding at the end of the summer and was curious what the price etiquette was for giving a gift. I've been told before that it's typically $100 per person. I usually have my boyfriend go with me so we spend $200 on a gift. The wedding we have coming up is not having a reception. They are being married in a flower garden and having "light hors d'oeuvres and cocktails to follow" (-exactly what the invite said). It is also about 450 miles from my house so we are spending a lot of money already on travel and hotel arrangements. Sense there is no dinner/reception... is the expected gift cost less? I'm not trying to sound cheap but wasn't sure what to do. Any suggestions?

Your right its usually around 100 dollars a person but honestly they will not care how much you spend since you are coming a long distance, at my wedding what people gave me was not a big deal, I just enjoyed that everyone came

It depends on what you are able to do. At times, I've given $20, at others $50 or more. It was dependent on what I could afford.

Since you are traveling a great distance, they should assume YOU are the gift. Seeing you will be a great gift indeed :) In all honesty, gifts are not required per "etiquette" at a wedding.

I usually try to cover the cost of food and drinks and then some. I don't think people should get married and think they are going to get rich. It's should be a celebration for their family and friends. Like it was said by others you making the drive and hotel cost they will be happy just to see you.
