    Courthouse Wedding
 My fiancé and I want to just have a courthouse wedding but we are having a hard time figuring out how to go about doing it! We live in Henry County Georgia and have no clue where to go to actually get married! Is a marriage license the same thing? We are lost! :( Please someone help! We are wanting to get married next month, at this rate we won't be married until next Christmas! :o

Getting married in the courthouse by a judge is not rocket science. You get your marriage license and schedule a time to have the ceremony performed. You need two witnesses to sign the marriage document. The county you live in does have a courthouse. If you do not know where that is, ask your law enforcement there. They would know.

    Ok,

You go down to the courthouse and get a marriage license, when you get it from the clerk, you tell them you want the judge to marry you.

They will check and see which one is available. They may marry you in his chambers or in the court room.

Have you asked the clerk what you need to do to get your marriage license, Each county in GA have different rules and requirements ( don't know why but I do know they have various rules)

You may also want to ask the clerk at the license department if there is a good time to get married.

But there are a lot of ministers who will also marry you either at the court house, or in the ministers home. I have done a lot of weddings in parks, at peoples home or at my home and a walmart parking lot once all around Atlanta.

Thank you very much, I talked to a lady at the courthouse but she was "too busy" to help me with my questions, I didn't really know where else to turn! Thanks again!

No civil servant should be too busy to help. To deflect that argument, ask the clerk for a time - an exact time - when you and your fiancé can come in and apply for the marriage license and ask her what all you need to bring with at that time. If she still cannot help you, ask to speak to someone who can.

Its probably the same thing as Illinois. You have to go down and get your marrige license. Just do a Google search of your county marrige license and go to their site and find out how to get there and once you both go down and get the license they will give you a packet telling you all about it and ask for the phone number to the courthouse, once you call that they will set you up with whatever date you want. All you have to do is show up and pay:)

Im from Michigan and my fiancé is in Georgia for basic training. June 27th he wants me to marry him because its family day and he gets a pass off base. So I'm going down but don't know if I have to apply like weeks in advance or if I can go down and just marry him that day?
