Bo Pang. Male. 20 Years Old.
His left eye visual ability was decreased rapidly since late sep. 2008. Hong Kong Optical Hospital checked his left eye but couldn’t make a conclusion about the illness. Therefore, no treatment was done by that time. Later, Qingdao hospital rechecked his eye by the late December 2008 and concludes that he got Retrobulbar neuritis. ( at that time, his left eyesight is 0.02) Horomone retrobulbar injection, intravenous injection of potassium chloride, dexamethasone, Disodium Cytidine Triphosphate and Venoruton were done as the treatments. But no improvement on his left eyesight ( it remains at 0.02). After that, he went to see a chinese tranditional medicine doctor, and ate some Chinese tranditional medicine; at the same time, he went to Beijing Tong Ren optical hospital to recheck his eye, they got the same conclusion as Retrobulbar neuritis. ( we’ve done the DNA test, it excludes the possibility of inherited disease).
On Jan. 31st 2009. His right eye visual ability was decreased rapidly. He went to shen zheng optical hospital and did the visual evoked potential. They diagnosed as the Retrobulbar neuritis. His right eyesight is 0.5. They did the intravenous injection of Methylprednisolone ( 300cc) for 2 days. Then he went back to Qingdao on Feb.3rd and rechecked at Qingdao Hospital. ( his right eyesight is 0.25 now) . They did the retrobulbar injection of dexamethasone and recommended us to see the neurological doctor. The neurological doctor suggested him to be hospitalized immediately. He did the nuclear magnetic resonance test at feb.4th 2009 and the lumbar puncture later at the same day. Hey did the intravenous injection of Methylprednisolone ( 500cc) and other nourishing medicines such as Monosialotetrahexosylganglioside Sodium Injection and Disodium Cytidine Triphosphate. The results of nuclear magnetic resonance test and lumbar puncture showed there are no problems. They did the prednisone injection ( 500cc / day) for 3 days. By that time, his eyes chromatic vision turned to be better than before but no improvement on his eyesight at all. Start from Feb.7th 2009, they decrease the prednisone injection to 80cc / day for 5 days and still using the nourishing medicine at the same time. ( as listed above) ( his eyesight is still 0.3 at that time)
He did go to other hospitals after that as well. But they all did the similar treatments and no improvements at all. ( at that time. Left eyesight 0.04 right eyesight is 0.06)
We went to Beijing People's Liberation Army Hospital and did the 1000cc of Methylprednisolone for 1 day and rat NGF ELISA (30mm / day ) injection for 20 days. Up until now, eyesight improved to 0.1 for both eyes. Then he went back to Qingdao to continue the treatment for 15 days. Then he went back to Beijing to see the Chinese trandition medical doctor and had some Chinese tranditional medicine. Until the late May, no further improvements had been found. From the x-ray, it showed that the left eye Optic atrophy is not very serious and his right eye has almost no optic atrophy ( mostly is inflammation).
