My father had eye surgery, one eye at a time.
Removing cateracts and a lens put in. Both times even by two different doctors his eye would not heal, I mean seal. They told him it will get better by the following day and this was not so. That flap they cut off and set back down would never seal. They put gas into his eye and laid on couch for days nothing it took them doing this a few times. And it happened on both eyes. Would I have to worry about this also. I know this is rare, but it is scary. If he would have done both eyes at once he would have been in a heap of trouble for a while. How concerned should I be if I ever want this. Should I only do one at a time. They almost had to give him a cornea tranplant he was told.

That flap never fully heals, that's why when people come in for touch-ups ((2nd, 3rd, etc.)) surgeries, they don't need to recut a flap, they simply lift the existing one. Personally this all sounds like bologna to me, but I'm not a MD or OD. Who knows if the two doctors he saw were in cahoots or not. I know that sounds silly, but most doctors have a back up, someone who they ALWAYS send their second opinions to. Are they both located in the same town? Anyway, I would seek a THIRD, maybe even FOURTH or FIFTH opinions. Ones of your own choosing.

**You can "Google" both doctors that he saw and read patient reviews ((usually is the first search result)), and see what other patients are saying. This is also a good tool for seeking another doctor to find the solution to this issue.

Let me ask you, what was their first suggestion to fixing this issue? Was further surgery or implants first on the list? Did they give him a contact lens to wear when he first came back to complain of this issue? That's usually the first thing they do. The contact lens acts as a band-aid and protects the healing process from the elements.

P.S. I don't know if this is an issue you would face if you proceeded with laser surgery. As stated before they don't heal fully, so this is possible.

No there were no other surgeries, he was sent to chicago to Dr Sugar and he called the class in and none of them could find the problem until he showed them what to look for. All is good now, but it was very scary. They just put those air or gas bubbles in his eyes and they finally fixed the problem. The surgeries were years apart also. Dr. Sugar said this was rare that it did it to both eyes.
It just makes me wonder if that could happen to me too. Maybe gene related.

I didn't ask if there were other surgeries. Although I am glad to hear the problem was resolved. Only a doctor can tell you if this is something genetic or not. But it sounds more like a doctor mistake then a defect in his eye.
