My snapper mower battery will not hold its charge
I will give details to my last question. I have a Snapper rear engine riding lawn mower. It is a "series 23" with a 12.5 hp Briggs engine.
The battery keeps losing its charge. I have replaced the battery with a new one. The first time that I mowed it cranked fine. The next time that I needed to mow, it would not turn over, only a clicking sound. I boosted it off and while I was mowing the battery had built up again. This keeps happening.
It has several safety features that will keep the mower from starting if they are not engaged but the battery should still turn over.
I believe that something is draining the battery down.
Can you help me find the problem?

Not familiar with the mower, but had a similar problem with a ford mustang.
Put an ammeter inline with the battery with everything off, and read the amp draw. If possible (hopefully mover has a fusebox), pull fuses one at a time to identify the circuit. After that, hopefully you can isolate the actual component.
FYI, I got this far on our mustang. We figured out which fuse to pull so the car would still start in few days, but I wasn't willing to start tearing further into wire harnesses. The Ford dealer was incapable of figuring the problem out. Sold the car a year ago...

Disconnect the negative battery cable between uses to see if the battery has something draining it. If the battery remains strong between uses, start pulling fuses or disconnecting components to try and isolate the short.
