Like asking what car you like best, Honda, Ford or Chevy.

Any of them can give you years of service if properly taken care of. My dad had a Briggs that lasted over 15 years, I had a Honda I used over 10. What type of owner are you? Will you drain the gas each year, clean the carb, put in new spark plug, keep the blade balanced and sharp?

Do you push it in the garage each time without cleaning, forget it is there when not using, till the spring? Perhaps you buy the cheapest and just buy a new one every two or three years? My friend did that and swears he spends less money than I do, keeping my up properly.

I think a Rolls Royce is a lot better than a KIA Rio.

You get what you pay for... Briggs and Hondas aren't even in the same price range.

You might be able to buy 4 or more Briggs powered lawnmowers for the price of one of The Hondas...being even a Briggs can last for years. I have one that's so old it was made before Push mowers had engine brakes and it runs well, Oh...and it has a Hechinger's nametag on it and they went out of business a LONG time ago.

Never put them away for the winter with fuel in it...run it dry before washing it well and cleaning it. Change the oil in the spring.

I used to have a Bobcat mower with a B&S engine on it and it seemed like it was bullet proof. The engine lasted at least 12 years before I finally sold the mower and who knows how long after that. Now, for the last 3 years, I have had a Husky with a Honda engine and that seems to also be a very solid engine. Just stick with a name brand mower and you can be pretty sure they are giving you a decent engine with it. When you buy a Walmart mower, it may have a B&S on it but it will be a low-end version....this is why you get a well known name brand mower.

I also want to add... I'm not sure how they actually rate the HP on thee lawnmowers... because I have both a Murry 6 hp (neighbor threw it out)... and a Hechinger store brand 3.5 hp (also found on trash day)... both push type... not self propelled... the 3.5hp is far harder to stall in high grass than the 6hp one is... go figure. Also have an old Toro with the Suzuki GTS engine...also a rescue...Electric start doesn't work....but it keeps running like a champ despite the horrible reputation that engine had.

    I bet the 3.5 is a 20 or 21 inch cut and the 6 is a 22 inch cut
