Craftsman briggs no spark... please help!
I have no spark at the spark plug... I hooked up a little continuity tester from the spark plug to the frame and when cranking the engine the little LED started flashing. So... I'm thinking this means there is current to the spark plug... just not enough.

I know the spark plug is good. I know the gapping on the spark plug is correct.

I would really appreciate any help / advice.

    Josh

p.s. I replace the ignition switch and accidentally blew the 30 amp fuse by hooking it up wrong... it is hooked up correctly now.

To check spark, hold the spark plug against the frame with the high voltage connected. Look for spark in the gap.

If you have an ohmeter, check the resistance of the plug. Measur from the electrode to the screw in base. Resistance should be infinate.

I think it cut me off... when I connect it to the spark plug wire and the frame... it flashes... it seems like it is working correctly! Then I try the spark plug and nothing! Could it be a loose connection somewhere? This is really confusing!

The continuity gizmo won't work. The current used in the gap is very little. It's strictly a voltage thing.

I don't know what we are dealing with. Do you know the make/model of the thing we are dealing with or the Briggs engine model/type and code for the engine.

See Small Engines, Lawn Mower Engines and Generators by Briggs & Stratton for a breakdown. Post the link.

The riding lawn mower is a craftsman II with a 12hp briggs and stratton engine. Model number 281707.
The think I called a "continuity tester" is labeled 6-12 VDC... not sure what it is, but I thought from the flashing LED, it meant there was power
