    MTD-Won't start after running
My MTD 849 tractor with an 18 hp B & S doesen't spark when I checked the plugs. I was told by Mowerman to remove the little black wires from coil, where is the coil in series or physically on the motor?

Then yesterday I noticed spark and decided to try and start, it did and I mowed again, shut it off for a while. Tried to start it and it won't.

Remove the blower housing, It is a coil that is next to the flywheel. The spark plug wire is attached to it and so is the kill wire which is the little black one.

Make sure you have some relatively strong string attached to the spark plug boot so you can pull it off to stop the mower.

Good point about the removal of the spark plug wire. I always seem to forget to mention that kiss. I prefer a plastic "zip" tie.

My 99 honda passport's fuel gauge doesn't work but I am assuming I ran out of gas at the bottom of a steep hill. It was running fine until I started up the hill and then it ran out of power. I put 2 gallons of gas in it and it wouldn't start. We added 4 gallons more and it still wouldn't start. ...

Running at 4000 rpm after cold start. [ 2 Answers ]

On cold days I like to drive the first 3-4 minutes in low gear - keeping the RPMs at 3500-4000. This makes the heat come out warm much faster. If I drive normally, then the heat will not come out warm in the 10 minutes it takes me to get to work. Is doing this harmful to the engine or tranny?
