JD 160 Engine Shuts OFF & Clutch Will Not Engage
I have been using the mower for a while now. I replaced the battery for a regular 12V car battery. The mower starts fine but when I move the switch to get the blades spinning, the engine stops.
Do you think I need a new clutch?
Do you think the Battery is too powerful?

Thanks for your help in advance!

    Hi,
One of two things are most likey in play. The PTO switch is a fairly common item it have to replace on that machine (it has two circuits in it.) The seat switch fails less often, and the earliest 160s only had to have it unplugged to eliminate while later versions require a jumper across the plug.
It could be the clutch, or something else; but just look at where the back of that switch is and the proximity of the battery (all those battery fumes are six inches away.) If you have a VOM, and know how to use it; the switch should be Off with the yellow/white wires read closed and the blue wires reading open. They should reverse in the On position.
    Peace,

    Thanks for the quick reply!

I will test the switch to see if it is the switch.

    Have a great weekend!
