    Generator puts out low voltage?
My 7KW generator has a voltage drop to 15 volts when it gets overloaded. It normally resets itself, but this last time it didn>t. Does it need a new AVR?

Generators are very sensitive to RPM and voltage. Like an older car, very little if any voltage is produced at idle. Overloading your generator causes the RPM to drop and therefore the voltage. Actually, generators are designed to run best at full RPM aand not more than about 95% wattage loading. Don't know what you did but I'm not sure a voltage regulator(AVR?)will do the job, you may have burned out some of the windings or damaged the armature. If you continually over load the generator, you should probably consider a larger output model.

Hi. I am renovating the kitchen and plan to install small halogen MR16 ceiling pot lights. Contrast and Lightolier have been recommended. At least, the Contrast line is available with either line or low voltage feeds. These questions come up as the plan calls for 9x35w MR16 (ceiling pot...

I just installed a section of track light in my living room just to see what it would look like and so far I'm not convinced... you see, I had a regular celing lamp with a 75w incandescent bulb and the room was very well lit... now with the track light I find that I need 3 fixtures with halogen...

Generator voltage output too low [ 2 Answers ]

I have this 10 month old SDMO 6KVA (3.8KW) generator (with Yanmar LE100 diesel engine) which has worked OK until recently. All of a sudden I noticed that the output voltage is nowhere near the rated 230volts. On no load it measures about 210 volts and drops to about 170-180volts when loaded to...
