Briggs starter does nothing when warm
I have a Briggs and Stratton 15.5 hp which starts great when cold but once warm and is shut off the starter does not even turn over, it just like the battery is dead. Once the motor is cold it will start again with no problem, would this be the starter or coil?

16.5 hp briggs, new battery and starter, starter spins but does not engage. 2 of the copper wire coils under the flywheel gets hot and the wires going to it
Well, I am hopeful that someone out there might have a suggestion for me. I run a 9 horsepower Briggs and Stratton log splitter that until recently ran very well. The problen is terrible kickback on occasion, enough to just about break a finger! Anyway, the problem became more relevant to the point...
My starter gear was shredded so we took the starter off and replaced the gear and put the starter back in. But when we hooked everything back up it doesn't even try to turn over. Now when we touch the starter relay to the starter it makes a clicking noise but that's it PLEASE HELP
