1969 wizard riding mowers, and a long child hood story
Trying to find information and pictures of these 2 mowers I got when I was a kid.my step mom was a and took them to a scrap yard thinking she'd get money for the metal.ended up getting like $4.00 for both! I got these when I was 10 and got them running, put all my money that I earned from cutting grass with the old reel mowers.wich wasn't a lot of $$.

Anyway the first one is a 1969 wizard rider.7hp recoil b&s.rear engine rider,30in cut, floating twin blade deck,26in turn radius,1-3hight adjustment, had yellow paint.I remember the model number I saw for both mowers in a magazine, it is 2xc3956. I saw this one in a trash pile on the way to school.so after school I missed the bus onpurpose, and pushed it about 2 miles to our farm.had 1 flat, and was nasty!

The second one is a 5hp wizard riding mower. 5hp recoil b&s,25in cut, single blade, circular deck.4sptrans.it sort of looks like the old huffy mowers, small feels like you sitting on the motor and trans! it had a tube "cage" around the motor. Didn't have a hood when I got it.there was also a 17in rod or bar that ran from the steering wheel to a vertical shaft that ran down to the tie rods.the 17in rod ran over the motor and then bolted to the vetical shaft. When I got it, it was missing that rod.someone removed it to remove the blower housing. With out that rod the steering don't work. It also had a square metal seat, foam rotted off.deck was a oranger or red color and retst of mower was grey or black.
The motor had a carburetor that looked like the one that was on the 7hp B&S wizard.
This mower I had found in a junkyard a few weeks later, bought it for $11 and me and my brother pushed it home, and no lie it took us about 4 hours because we stay out in the country.we asked our step mom if she could haul it in the truck, she told us if we wanted it bad enough , to find away to get it home.so we ended up pushing it for 4 hrs.
We got the 7hp wizard going, use it to cut grass,ACTUALLY step mom did, because it ran better than hers.we wanted it for a go cart because of how the chassy was set up,but when she saw that I cut, she didn't let us use it. If I had it now it would be a mower, not a toy! the 5hp wizard had a thrown rod, never got it running.took it all apart.painted it , just never got around to getting the motor fixed.we also had gotten a few old dynamark riding mowers, and a old murray and 70's craftsman.all from the junk yard, for all under $20 apiece.me and my little brother pushed them all home.step mom wouldn't let us use the garage,we deciced to take over a old wood/tin shed that was about 5ft tall,8ft wide,8ft deep.this shed was used as a shelter for 4 dogs.so we had shared it with the dogs, had the place cramped, one mower sitting on a makeshift table, had one taken apart sitting under the table, had 2 parked in the shed, had another one sitting on top of 2 dog houses inside the shed, our tools where kept in the seats of the mowers or in a box.and we had a lite hooked up to a extension cord, and a space heater wired hung on the wall.the snow would come inside the shed through cracks, when it melted it would soak everything, was always cold ,in the summer it got hot, but we had a fan! Amazingly step mom didn't take that!we had to keep all our crap in the shed, I mean everything.couldnt set anything behind it.one time we pushed out our dynamark,so we could paint another mower, and also rebuild the bench that we used as a table.we left, came back step mom had taken the dynamark rider,2 engines and our wood that we were using to make our new work table.had neighbor pick it up.funnything is, we found 2 dynamark riders and a cub cadet low boy(which was a wreck. Motor was blown, taken arpart, the tires had flat, the trans was taken apart, rusted some places, we had got the junkyard owner to give us a ride home. We had litteraly no room in the shed after we packed it.we had 6 mowers packed in that shed.had one on top of the dog houses, one on work table, one under table, had one on top of the low boy,one take all apart hung from the rafters and one stood up against wall.never got the low boy going, guess that project was too much or a 10 and 8 yr old.one day our step mom was mad,and took it all to the scrap yard.she said its worth more in scrap because its heavy. She got like $4 for the wizards, and got like not even $20 for the rest.
After that me and my brother were done, we had had it, step mom was abusive, couldn't take care of us, everything thing we enjoyed we had got on our own,we had got most food from the church and she got our clothes free from the salvation army.everything else me and my little brother got on our own.our tools we got over time for like $5-$10 here and there at yard sales and good will,or from old neighbors.the money we used for mowers at junk we got from cutting grass, and if mom bought us gas we had to pay her back with what we got for cutting grass.everybit of money we used for our mowers we made, the mowers we bought with our earned money,or got free rom junk yard.after step mom took our stuff, we just broke down.thats all we had,all we enjoyed.we couldn't take it.people reported her to child family services for years because of the treatmen and living conditions.a bribe was, we deny it all, we got to keep our mower in the shed.to us it was worth it.eat at school, shower at home, work on our mowers.eventually child services had enough and took us away, put us in foster homes again, was in them for a few years, step mom got her crap together, I graduated high school and went in the army,my little brother couldn't really forgive or foget,he made a stupid choice, and is now in juvenile detention.I don't aprove of what he did,but I can't blame him.hopefully he will be out of jail or what ever by the time I finish my time in the army, and hopefully we'll be able to go back to messin around with mowers and trash picking a junkyards.never can get to old for it, he's 16 and I'm 18. Not to old for it! Well sorry this turned in to a story for those of you that read it all.it happens when you try to find stuff you had when you was a kid,or at least for me it does.its hard for it not to turn in to a story, all the memories just pour out when I think of it. Any who id like to find info and pictures for the 5 and 7hp wizard riding mowers.also if you have any pictures of any of the other mowers mention in the story, by all means send pics or info or what ever you got or have. I do appreciate it
