    Too shy? Bad performance?
Okay I recently performed (singing) "when i had you" at my school in front of SOOO many people and I was so nervous! I did OK, I mean I won a cash prize but I think my low-confidence in my voice and nervousness had a bad effect on my performance. Does anyone know how to get over public shyness?? I think if I could get over that I could do much better in the future.

The old remedy was think of the audience in their underwear!? I never sang on stage but used to dance. I would just listen to the music and pretend I was all alone, It helped a little(I was very shy) The more I performed the easy it was.

    Hi, k1kxo19!

desertstar36 gave you some really good advice, above!

My question for you is, has your shyness ever kept you from preparing for or doing a performance, please?

It's also best not to be too hard on yourself about how you performed. You did, after all, win a cash prize! If you felt there were some things on which you could improve, then you work on them. Best also to be asking others whom you know will be honest with you as to how you really did.

Old saying: "The best mirror is a friends eye".

    Thanks!

    Hi,
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!! Woo-hoo... you did great! Now let's tackle the nerves. :)

I've participated in lots of school performances and dance and speaking in front of people. I have gotten over the nervousness by simply thinking that they feel the same way too when they're in front of people. People are usually very kind when it comes to watching others perform. Even if you mess up... so what. Just remember YOU are the one with the guts to get up there and share your talent. You're a doer, not just a spectator.

Of course it's natural to feel a little bit nervous but you've practiced and got your routine or song or dance or speech down. You are in front of people who want to enjoy the show or learn something and you are sharing. Think about how you feel when you go to a show. You are happy to be there and are looking forward to the entertainment. Don't we feel supportive when we are the audience? I'm including a link with some tips. Good luck! :)
