My suggestion would be to get yourself involved in some community theater productions that might put on plays and/or musicals. Those are excellent ways for people to get started in an acting career of some kind! There also might be dinner theaters around where you live that put on musical theater productions as well as plays, that might allow amateurs to audition in addition to the professionals that are in the show. It happens that way in the U.S. but I'm not sure how it works with dinner theaters, if there are any, around where you live.

Usually, when you start becoming involved in theater of any kind, you are cast in a part as part of a larger group of people in the show such as small groups of people or in the chorus. You might even get a bit part by yourself in a show. These ways are where you get your "feet wet" and see how things work, as well as get used to being on stage and working to get over any nervousness that you might have.

After you have been in a number of shows as part of a group of people or have been assigned bit parts, then you might get cast as a lead or supporting lead in a show.

As far as your children, if they are very small, or still need attending to while you might be at a rehearsal for a show, there may be baby-sitting services available at the community theater where you might be rehearsing.

If you like to sing, and would like to become a part of musical theater productions and have not already had voice training, then I would suggest taking voice lessons and/or getting involved in a choir or chorus of some kind.

Also, ask the theaters you will work at if they are members of/ a troupe of the International Thespian Society, it's not required, but it's a good thing to put on a resume and shows that you have met certain requirements, and working in a theater production (acting, production/crew work) will eventually get you into the thespian society of the place you work is a troupe and will sponsor your membership when you meet the requirements.

I personally am a member thespian and it just is a good thing to be a member of if you are going to be working in theater and plan to do so for more than just one production, it's a good thing to put on a resume or an application for a job. Good luck!
