I started to use tampons two months ago, I wanted to try using them because I was thinking it would make it easier for me to move around, I always thought every time I wear a pad people can see the shape from my pants so I wrap a jacket around my waist. My mother wasn't sure that I should start wearing them because she sometimes thought I would forget that I have inside, there's no way I can not notice something inside of me, I can obviously feel it. I'm turning 17 in three days, I don't think that has anything to do with it but my younger stepsister started wearing tampons before me so I wanted to try it.
First I called my mom to see if it was OK with her for me to try wearing one for a day, she said it was fine, so I read the directions and tried two times to get it right, I got it in the third try and it was hurting for a bit. So evertime I get my monthly I would sometimes wear a tampon, I'm a virgin and my older 26 yr oold sister said since I'm a virgin it's going to hurt since I never had sex, I always have a hard time sitting down and laying down, it feels uncomfortable, but I don't want to stop wearing them since they are useful.
Is there a way for me to wear tampons without feeling pain inside?

This is Lady Toni answering using my husbands account.

Have you tried using the smallest size tampon that you can? They have thinner ones just for teens and first time users. Personally I liked using them because the smaller size fit better. Never use a tampon larger than your needs. I preferred the use of tampons too, cause I felt that everyone could see the outline of a pad when I wore them. That being said, I almost always wore a panty liner when I was using a tampon just in case I didn't get to the bathroom to change the tampon in time. Try a smaller size, they do seem to go in easier, plastic applicators or rounded cardboard are also more helpful. I always tried to steer clear of putting any lubricating product on them as I didn't know how they would affect the performance of the tampon. If you do use a tampon with an applicator, perhaps putting a water based lubracant on the outside of the applicator would help insertion. Hope that helps. Lady Toni

Tampons shouldn't hurt or even be felt much after insertion if they're being inserted correctly. That said, not everyone is built to use tampons. Like every person's personality is unique, so are our bodies.

Now, if you'd really like this to work, there are some things you need to know. Lets address the virgin issue.

Using a tampon shouldn't hurt more for virgins vs non-virgins, generally speaking. I agree with the previous poster though, that you may want to start with the thinner, light absorbancy tampons if the regular/heavy absorbancy tampons are too wide for you.

Next, you have more options than just tampons or tampons with applicators if you're looking for an alternative to pads. O.B tampons (that's the brand name) come with no applicator. You use your fingers to insert them which might be beneficial, because you can really feel where you are placing it, making sure they end up somewhere comfortable. Next up are Moon Cups. I'm not sure they sell these in the regular stores, but you can definitely order them online. There's a similar product that I've purchased at WalMart; they're called Instead or Soft Cups. Google them- their websites are very informative :)

Thank you for twlling me this, and I do have smaller tampons, sometimes they also feel uncomfortale but I have to change them really fast, like every two hours, when I'm heavy I use the regular one, my mother has those, and I also wear a piner just in case, I will try the advise that the two of you have gave me .

Little late on this comment thing! But I use smaller but heavier flow tampons, several brands to choose from, that can make it easier, when the tampon is in it shouldn't hurt, if it does then you didn't put it in right/or farther enough. Google how to insert one, it should give you a step by step.

If it is uncomfortable use a small hand held mirror to see um... your lady garden
.try to find your tale bone and line the tampon up with that
.if it is still uncomfortable relax listen to music anything that relaxes you and calm down
.use lubericant to help

OP might not see this a month late, but the part about being uncomfortable when sitting, etc: that's because it isn't in far enough. You need to push it in as far as one finger can reach. Mine used to fall out if I didn't!
