My best friend is being distant towards me
My best friend is acting distant towards me. All of this started when me and her were being bothered by a person we didn't even know. We couldn't exactly complain because she was working and I didn't want a scene because my best friend was ready to fight. I convinced her to let it go and we left. Later on when my dad picked us up, me and her were complaining about what happened. My dad overheard us talking and got a little bit frustrated with me. When we got home he starting laying on me that I shouldn't complain like that because he was in a similar situation as the worker when he was a teen so he understood where she was coming from. Then he started to say that I should stand up for myself if I thought it was that wrong, and that I was "weak". By then I was angry and we had a fight. When he left I was so mad that I couldn't think staright.

My best friend was right there through it all. She tried to be supportive by comforting me and telling me she was there for me and that I could sleep over her house. After that my dad brought us to a restaurant to apologize for what he did, but I was still angry. When we came back I packed my clothes and made my way over to her house. Things didn't go very well with my dad yelling that I wasn't allowed, and then he switched to his mother tongue, he only does this when he's really angry. My friend just left home shaking her head without a goodbye.

Later on that night her mother called accusing my dad of "offending" my best friend. I texted my friend why she would think that. She said because he was yelling at me in another language and I was looking at her sometimes while he did that so she assumed. We had a talk and I must admit I stretched the truth more than once because I was angry at my dad. A few days later I wanted to talk to my dad about what happened and he told me that I took whatever he had to say out of context. As I listened I felt like such a baby, I took such a simple thing too far.

My best friend said she would be there for me but when I started talking to her, she ignored me. I first IM'd her, but she ignored me. I texted her and she answered. We texted that night and cleared things up with her and we made plans to hang, but that fell through because of the weather. Now I'm going abroad and I want to have a conversation with her face to face because she is still acting weird. Why is she acting this way? What else can I do? I don't want to lose my best friend over something like this.

You at least admitted that you "took such a simple thing too far" so I'd say your head is mostly in the right place. Ultimately, it's your friends decision whether to accept the olive branch you've extended. If you're leaving the country soon, do your best to arrange a face-to-face meeting. If that falls through, phone conversations and text messages will have to suffice until you return.

Perhaps a bit of time and space will help?
