Is it worth working part time as a child care provider for tax purposes?
    Hello,

I'm a full time student , getting loan and bursaries from Quebec government. A friend of mine offers to babysit his children. So income that I will be getting for the service is taxable, right? It's not bad as I hardly have any income . My Spouse is working full time and we have no kids. Will a portion of my bursary be cut? I'd love to have this extra income... so Im curious if it's worth doing ?

    Thanks

Whether or not it is worth it depends on your and your spouse's total income and total deductions for the tax year. It would be easiest for you to buy a tax software package and plug in some numbers. It's handy software to have anyway.
Generally a full time student has good tax advantages, so generally it would be worth it.
You might want to ask the friend if the payments will be cash that he won't be reporting. (Technically of course you are supposed to report ALL income, but babysitting is often 'overlooked' by all parties.)

This is NOT really a tax question, though the babysitting money IS definitely taxable income if it exceeds $400 per year.

What it is in reality is a question as to whether you will lose benefits from, the Quebec government if you earn any income while being a student. I doubt anyone on this forum can answer that question, but a phone call to the administrator of the bursary should be able to give a definitive answer.
